Ok... so it's not our idea of the best thing to do with our own 'hard earned crust'...but we understand that for some the thrill of the spinning roulette wheel, the adrenalin rush of holding a royal flush, and the moment of expectation as the winning icons settle in the 'window' of a one-armed bandit...are all 'vacation experiences' that are an occasional essential of some visitors to our homeland.

Fact is relaxing with a free (?) cocktail as their holiday money teeters on the brink of 'doubling' or...disappearing!!! Is an ingredient of a holiday in the Dominican Republic that some don't want to miss.

So just as some will get that 'kick inside' from kiteboarding, canyoning, whitewater rafting...or just hiking to the highest point they can reach and surveying one of the many nerve-tingling vistas of lush exotic forest that our country offers...others would rather be closeted in the confines of one of the numerous casinos in the Dominican Republic, with one of the world's finest Dominican cigars spiralling smoke into the 'electric' air clutched between the fingers of one hand, a frozen daiquiri in their other hand, and a close eye on the turn of the card as their 'pile of chips' swells or diminishes and the hours evaporate into the early morn of a new day!

Casinos in the Dominican Republic can now be found liberally spread around the country, many being developed within the larger better class Dominican Hotels and all-inclusive resorts. But they are concentrated in greater numbers particularly in the Capital City, Santo Domingo, and in Puerto Plata on the Amber Coast in the North of the DR. So...For instance perhaps you could 'drop' your 'first' (or your last?) US$50 here at the Dominican Dream Project, a charity helping impoverished Dominican kids, rather than on the gaming tables...Guaranteed your money will have gone to a better place `that it likely otherwise would!

We know it is your prerogative to enjoy the adrenalin inducing flash of four aces...but if someone decides to spend half of his intended Dominican casino stake money on such a thrill...and the other half on doing something more positive to help the local economy, or that at least benefits local people...especially the hungry, but ever hopeful, young children...then we think that would give you a longer lasting, better, warmer 'buzz' than you get from the 'hangover' the morning after a 'long night' in one of the many casinos in the Dominican Republic!
