Getting around in
the Dominican Republic
by Private and Public Transport

Buses, Taxis, Cars and
What the heck are 'Gua Guas'!!

The Dominican Republic is no small place so private and public transport options are in big demand.

Everyone needs to find the best way, for them, to get around. This will be influenced by:

  • How much money you have to spend.
  • How comfortable you want to be
  • How safe you want to be and
  • How brave you are

...amongst other considerations! (Like do you mind having a chicken on your lap! It's ok we'll explain later!)

On the following pages we aim to provide a brief 'run-down' about the different forms of Dominican public transport you might be using once you've landed and want to make the most of your Dominican Republic vacation.

So we're going to summarise some of the key things to know about the Republic's public and private transport on the following pages:

  • Taxi plus you can now BOOK A TAXI through us!
  • Buses and Coaches
  • Driving in the DR
  • Car rental Dominican Republic

    And those peculiar Dominican phenomena:

  • Guaguas, publicos and motoconchos

We also provide some information about distances and how long it takes to travel between some of the better known resorts in the Dominican Republic. But if you can't find what you need to know than please do 'contact us' and we'll send you any further information we may have.
